Why won't the extension open over a new Google search page tab?

The extension won't open on the default Google search page when opening a new tab - here's why.

You may have noticed that the extension won't open over the default Google search page when opening a new tab in your Chrome browser.

Without getting too deep into the technical details, this happens because Google has injected code into that particular page that restricts certain extensions from opening on them.

The good news is that this only happens on the search page that loads after loading a new tab - if you manually type in www.google.com or www.google.ca you'll notice that the extension works fine :)
